- I live in Nottingham, so unfortunately it's unlikely I'll be able to make any London wikimeet in the near future, but I'll try. Are you coming to the AGM? If so, it would be good to discuss there. Meanwhile, could you explain how Wiki Art helps the chapter to fulfill its objects? How does it support the projects of the Foundation? - I doubt I will be able to come to the AGM as things stand. Let's see! Anyway, one of the things which became obvious from the Wikipedia Art issue last year was that many people are unfamiliar with contemporary Art Theory, as much in its application as anything else. Making knowledge about this sphere of activity clear fits very well within the objectives of Wikimedia UK as outlined in the constitution. I think there are a number of aspects which can be taken up here, some epistemological, some in relation to performance art, other to do with more general cyber-theory. I think this would be an opportunity to develop a qualitative approach to the dissemination of knowledge, to compliment the quantitative approachs whch we are perhaps more familiar with.Harrypotter 18:41, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
More Sciency

Poll on London Loves Wikipedia project 
AndrewRT has proposed using polls as a way of taking this proposal forward. I'm not against such a methodology in principle, but feel it is a little premature, when only one or two people are showing an interest. Anyway I have created a separate page where people can work on any polls they feel would be helpful. before developing a poll it useful to consider one or two guidelines:
- Is it the right time to conduct the poll? This needs to be considered in the time frame of the project and upcoming deadlines.
- Has there been an opportunity to sketch out clear alternative for which people may vote?
If a poll is seen as the best way forward then it is important to sort out:
- When voting starts and when it closes. This needs to be done to give people an opportunity to consider the options and make a decision, within the framework of the project time scale. Harrypotter 18:28, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Title says "Britain" not "London", yet all the museums discussed seem to be in London (which tend to see themselves as being an international platform). If it's "Britain loves Wikipedia", then perhaps getting small, local museums across the nation involved would be more productive, perhaps focusing on sharing knowedge about local heroes, inventions or places, with an over-riding theme of making the global local and the local global macro/microcosm. - I love the global-local idea - can see how this would work well with local museums. There's an ongoing discussion on whether this should be just London or the whole of Britain. The original argument for just a small area like London is that you would get more participants going to more than one museum - if the 6th Feb is, say, the Science Museum in London and the 14th Feb is the Museum of Edinburgh then I'm not sure many people participating in the first would do also do the second. - We haven't yet started contacting museums to get them involved in this; the current two that have expressed interest (and others that are mentioned) were from when it was London Loves Wikipedia. Once the NPG issue is resolved, then we'll be contacting museums around the country (probably focusing on a small number of cities) to get them involved. Global-local works really well as a concept, though - that should definitely be kept in mind.
- It might be good to have common themes throughout all of the museums involved. Local people could be one; other examples could include focusing on astronomy, life at sea, wars, etc. We could then get the appropriate wikiprojects involved in the on-wiki work (and off-wiki if they're in the right area). Premature announcement 
Why is this being advertised at the top of all pages, when the project pages underneath Initiatives/ are devoid of content, and the "Targets" page is empty. Ideally, fill the content out and then advertise it across Wikipedia; at the moment it is merely wasting people's time leading to the devaluing of the site-wide top link space. 11:32, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- I've gotten so used to that banner I didn't even notice it was still there! It should definitely be removed now. If it was going to do any good, it would have done it by now. --Tango 14:28, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- I agree, and have left a notice on wikipedia:Wikipedia:Geonotice saying that it could be removed. It wasn't meant to be a notice of the event, but a notice of the planning of the event, so that people could get involved with organizing it.
